We hope that as a member of Bundaberg Surf Life Saving Club you feel welcome, have the opportunity to enjoy our beautiful beach, form lasting friendships, contribute to Queensland’s biggest volunteer organisation and learn new skills.
Our club was founded in 1921 at Neilson Park and has a long, proud history in the Bundaberg region. During the 2019/20 season, our volunteers and members of the Australian Lifeguard Service kept over 30 000 visitors to our beach safe.
The surf life saving patrolling season runs September to May. Sign on days for Nippers are in early September, however anyone can join at any time throughout the season.

Due to Covid19, a few extra protocols are in place this year for sign on days and nipper activities:
Please make sure that if you are completing pool swims on the day, your child comes dressed in togs and is ready to go
Please make sure you sign in and out as entering and leaving for contact tracing
Please be aware of new social distancing restrictions, including allowing limited adults and family members on the pool deck
Bundaberg SLSC appreciates your understanding during this time, we're very excited for the new season and want to ensure it goes ahead and is amazing!

Active Patrolling: Members over 18 years who hold a minimum SRC or BM award.
Long Service: Long service may be granted to those members who have completed ten years of active service at the discretion of the Management Committee. Long service members are exempt from patrol obligations, but many continue to volunteer for patrols.

Life Member: Life Membership may be granted to members who have rendered distinguished or special services over a long period of time. These are awarded by the Management Committee after a nomination and appraisal process is completed.
Surf Life Saving teaches all members and nippers to apply swim skills to ocean conditions. To ensure the safety of all juniors during water activities SLSQ have developed a Junior Skills Evaluation for each age group. This includes a pool evaluation prior to inclusion in water activities at the beach, a ‘run-swim-run’ beach evaluation for inclusion in Sunday and training activities and a ‘competency beach evaluation’ which allows nippers to nominate for club and inter-club carnivals. It is a pre-requisite for all Junior Activities to have an ability to swim.
If you are joining children up to our nipper program, please consult the Nipper Information regarding skills and age awards for pre-requisite swimming requirements. All Bronze and SRC courses also have a minimum pool skills evaluation that will need to be completed. For more information on completing these courses, see Education.
All parents/guardians and volunteers of our club over the age of 18 years must hold a current ‘Working with Children’ Blue Card. Existing blue cards must also be linked to our organisation. This includes professions such as teachers, nurses and police officers, who are exempt. Forms are available at club ‘sign on’ days or a copy can be requested via email and there is no cost to volunteers.
Members of our Management Committee, Junior Activities Team, Coaches and Patrol Captains are also required to complete ‘Child and Youth Risk Management Strategy’ training at the beginning of each season.
READY TO JOIN?
We're very excited to have you on board and wish all new members a very warm welcome. Joining our club as a member is easy, and can be done via printed form or online.
Please be aware that all nippers (aged 5-14 years) must have at least one parent or guardian join as a member with them. This can be done by creating a family group in the parent's name and joining all children to that group.
If using a paper form, please fill out a separate form for each member.
